2011 Year in Review
January
SCW kicked off 2011 with "Havoc at the Hangar". The event featured two main event matches and a #1 Contendership match as the headlining attractions.
The #1 Contendership match featured two of SCW's heavy hitters colliding for a shot at Tyson Dux's Triple Crown Championship. "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin went head-on with "The Russian Bear" Boris Brezhnev.
While it looked like Elgin was going to pick up the victory after some impressive near falls, Boris Brezhnev managed to put away the ROH superstar following a twisting Reverse Piledriver.
Boris Brezhnev would win himself an opportunity to take on the Triple Crown Champion at Day 1 of the Adrenaline Cup Tournament.
In our first main event of the night, Triple Crown Champion, "Textbook" Tyson Dux, took on former TNA/ROH Star: Sonjay Dutt. Dux and Dutt put it all on the line in what was an unbelievable match-up. Although Tyson Dux ended up a bloody mess he managed to defeat The Guru following a Brainbuster Suplex. Afterwards, Tyson Dux was rushed to the local hospital and received 8 stitches above his eyebrow.
Our main event was a 4-Way Survival pitting 4 of SCW's most talented superstars against each other. "The All-Starter" Brent Banks outlasted Jayson Cyprus, Sebastian Suave and Anthony Fiasco in a jaw dropping 4-way. The 400+ fans in attendance gave these men a much deserved standing ovation.
After a years absence, the Adrenaline Cup makes it's return to SCW in a 2-Day Tournament. Day 1 featured the Qualifying Round, pitting some of Ontario's most entertaining and high flying competitors against each other.
Qualifying matches featured: Jayson Cyprus defeating "The All-Starter" Brent Banks, Don Payson defeating Sebastian Suave, eL Tornado defeating "Psycho" Mike Rollins and Anthony Fiasco defeating Marcus "The Great" Marquez.
The sleeper match of the night was a Triple Threat match featuring ROH Superstar: "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin taking on "The Hacker" Scotty O'Shea and Ashley Sixx. The crowd was standing on their feet for the entire match, watching in awe as these three warriors put it all on the line.
In the main event, "Textbook" Tyson Dux defended his Triple Crown Championship against "The Russian Bear" Boris Brezhnev In the heat of the moment, Tyson Dux accidentally pushed Senior Referee, Jimmy Korderas, picking up a Disqualification for his actions. Dux immediately asked for a re-match since the fans in attendance deserved a decisive finish. Following a few seconds after re-starting the match, Tyson had Boris defeated with a Running DVD when "The Russian Vixxen" Nikita ran out to distract the referee. Watching from the back, Xandra Bale had enough of Nikita's actions and decided to run out to put a stop to things which quickly lead to the entire locker room emptying out and brawling inside of the ring. Although there wasn't an official winner to our Championship match, Tyson Dux was the ONLY man left standing inside of the ring. May The conclusion of the 2011 Adrenaline Cup took place in Brampton. Originally, the A-Cup finals featured: Jayson Cyprus, Don Paysan, eL Tornado and Anthony Fiasco. Unfortunately, due to a career ending injury suffered by the hands of Jayson Cyprus in Quebec, Don Paysan was forced to withdraw from the tournament.
A 4-Way Wild Card Match was scheduled to determine who would be taking Don Paysan's place. "The All-Starter" Brent Banks outlasted Ashley Sixx, Cody 45 & "The Hacker" Scotty O'Shea to win himself a spot in the Adrenaline Cup Finals.
Former ROH and CHIKARA Pro tag team, the Super Smash Bros., along with "Speedball" Mike Bailey made their SCW debut against The Empire's Marcus "The Great" Marquez, Sebastian Suave and Decimus. The fans were left speechless after an incredible trio's match-up featuring death defying moves like a Shooting Star Press to the outside.
While Super Smash Bros. and Mike Bailey were able to pick up a win during their debut, Marcus Marquez and Sebastian Suave attacked ambushed the exhausted trio. The Empire revealed that SCW was re-instating the former BSE Pro Tag Team Titles at the next event and demanded that they compete against the Super Smash Bros. for the Championships.
In the main event, Jayson Cyprus defeated eL Tornado, Brent Banks and Anthony Fiasco to capture the 2011 A-Cup with a little help form the returning VANE!!
Following a Sliced Bread to Anthony Fiasco, it seemed that Brent Banks had the match won when the 6'1" 300lbs monster, VANE, made his return and cleared the ring. He placed Jayson Cyprus ontop of the fallen Anthony Fiasco and helped him steal the win. Jimmy Korderas Referee Camp Former WWE Senior Referee, Jimmy Korderas, held a Referee Camp at Squared Circle's training facility.
Participants not only had the chance to pick Jimmy's brain and ask whatever questions popped into their heads but they were also able to referee multiple training matches put on by SCW alumni.
After the camp concluded, each participant were invited to referee at a SCW event in front of a live audience.
Keep checking our website to find out when you can apply for Jimmy Kordera's 2012 Referee Camp! Open House Squared Circle Training opened it's doors for two weekends allowing any potential students try out a class for free.
We were humbled to see how many people came out to participate and ask questions about training.
We will be holding another OPEN HOUSE in the Summer of 2012, keep checking back for more details.
June
Tiger Fest Things weren't all sunshine and lolipops in 2011. During Tiger Fest's return to Milton, we suffered a massive rain storm, canceling the street festival and washing out our annual out-door event.
Luckily, with a lot of hard work and patience, we were able to re-locate the event indoors at Milton's Cross-fit Gym.
Once everything was set-up, away from the pouring rain, the event went on without a hitch.
The Show featured a double main event, the first being a 6-Man Tag Team match featuring - Team Superstars: Kiyoshi, Tatanka and Bushwacker Luke vs Team Powerhouse: James Champagne, Pierre Khourry and Boris Brezhnev.
Team Powerhouse isolated Bushwacker Luke away from his corner, making quick tags to make sure that he wouldn't escape from their grasps.
Finally, after some miscommunication, Bushwacker Luke tagged out to his tag team partners. Shortly after, Kiyoshi was able to put Boris Brezhnev away with a Red Mist/Buzzsaw Kick combo.
In the main event, former WWE Superstar, Robbie McAlister, stole a win from Sonjay Dutt. After some post-match controversy, Tiger Ali Singh then turned the match into a Tag Team main event featuring Robbie McAlister & Tyson Dux vs Sonjay Dutt & Muhammad Farouqi.
It was apparent that Muhammad was the weak link in the match, fumbling around and unable to mount any real offense for his team. Once Sonjay Dutt made the tag, he managed to keep Tyson Dux at bay and picked up the pinfall.
Summer Showdown II SCW returned to the Hangar in Toronto with Summer Showdown II. A star studded event featuring superstars from across the world including Kiyoshi, Sonjay Dutt, Kevin Steen, Super Smash Bros., Pepper Parks, Jimmy Gavroche...etc.
One of the most anticipated matches on the card was a 3-Way Dance involving the Adrenaline Cup Champion: Jayson Cyprus vs ROH's Michael Elgin vs former TNA Star, Sonjay Dutt!
All 3 men fought hard, using impressive high flying offense and hard hitting striking to try and capture the pinfall.
After all was said and done, Jayson Cyprus stole the win after nailing Michael Elgin with a loaded Monster Energy drink can.
Before the Tag Team Championship match between The Empire and Super Smash Bros. could take place, C & C Wrestling Factory(James Champagne and Cody 45) interjected themselves into the match and made it a Triple Threat Tag Team Match.
Marcus Marquez stole the win after kicking James Champagne low and then blasting Player Uno across the head with a chain. The Empire would be the first ever Tag Team Champions since BSE Pro ceased operation.
In the main event, Tyson Dux defended his Triple Crown Championship against Pepper Parks in what was an intense hard hitting match up.
Dux managed to retain the Championship following a DVD into the corner and Brainbuster Combo. Afterwards, Jayson Cyprus ran out and attacked the champion untill Michael Elgin made the save. July We made our debut at the TRIO Sportsplex in Vaughan, ON - what would later be our home.
Earlier in the month, the Gym Rats 2.0 issued an open challenge to the Tag Team Champions, The Empire. The Champs only agreed to put their Titles on the line if both members of the Gym Rats 2.0 could successfully beat them in singles matches.
Sebastian Suave took on "Hacker" Scotty O'Shea in the first "Chance at Gold" challenge. These two took each other to the limit. Eventually, Scotty O'Shea managed to keep one half of the Tag Champions down following his CTRL, ALT, DELETE signature move.
Marcus Marquez took on Alessandro del Bruno in the second "Chance at Gold"challenge. Marcus focused his attack on del Bruno's arm, constantly keeping wrenching it out of it's socket. Right before Alessandro del Bruno could get any momentum on his side, Sebastian Suave ran out and attacked him causing a DQ.
Since both members of the Gym Rats won their respective matches, they were awarded a Tag Team Championship match at "Collision Course".
In the main event, Tyson Dux defended his Triple Crown Championship against "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin and the 2011 Adrenaline Cup Champion, Jayson Cyprus in a NO DQ 3-Way Dance.
This match went all over the arena. All three men hit each other with everything and anything they could get their hands on. In the end, Tyson Dux managed to counter Jayson Cyprus' Roll the Dice into a Brainbuster and retained his Championship.
September The month of September was extremely busy. We made our return to Vaughan with "Collision Course", made our debut in Peterborough, ON with "Epic Encounters", held a Pro Wrestling Essay Contest hosted by former WWE Champion: EDGE and offered our first ever all-girls training class with former TNA Knockouts Champion: Taylor Wilde.
Collision Course Former WWE Tough Enough contestant, "M-Dogg 20" Matt Cross, made his SCW debut at September's "Collision Course".
Originally, Matt Cross was scheduled to compete against "Textbook" Tyson Dux but unfortunately the Triple Crown Champion had to pull out due to a family emergency.
Also scheduled for the event was a Grudge Match featuring ROH's Michael Elgin vs Jayson Cyprus. Unfortunately, Jayson Cyprus suffered a major knee injury while training and wasn't medically cleared to compete.
Since Matt Cross and Michael Elgin had no opponents they decided to compete against each other in order to take each other to the limit and prove themselves.
In a Fans Choice Match, RJ City took on "Russian Bear" Boris Brezhnev in a Loser Leaves Canada Match.
While it seemed that Boris Brezhnev had the match won after obtaining a Steal Chain, RJ City managed to turn the tables and knock the Bear out with his own weapon to pick up the win.
Boris Brezhnev seemed extremely emotional as he realized that he must leave the country and SCW.
The Empire successfully defended their Tag Team Championships against the Gym Rats 2.0 after Seleziya Sparx interfered.
The Gym Rats 2.0 had the match won following a Double Tombstone Piledriver on Marcus Marquez. Before they could get the 3-count, Seleziya Sparx ran out and distracted the referee. While Scotty O'Shea's attention was directed towards Ms. Sparx, Sebastian Suave quickly low blowed him and placed Marcus ontop of him.
In the main event, "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin squared off against "M-Dogg 20" Matt Cross in a jaw dropping match-up.
The crowd was split 50/50, cheering for whoever was in control of the match at the time.
After missing a Shooting Star Press, Matt Cross quickly found himself victim to a Turnbuckle Powerbomb/Sit-Out Powerbomb combo. Michael Elgin not only won the match but he won Matt Cross' respect.
Tiger Fest: Brampton
Tiger Fest made it's Brampton debut at a sold-out Chinguacousy Park. The event featured a pre-show musical act featuring local Brampton musicians.
The Empire defended their Tag Team Championships against Former WWE Stars, Bushwacker Luke & Tatanka.
The Tag Team Champions isolated Luke away from his tag team partner, making quick tags and keeping him down with impressive double team moves.
Once Tatanka made the tag, he quickly cleared the ring, taking out both members of The Empire.
In the end, Marcus Marquez fell victim to Tatanka's Samoan Drop and Bushwacker Luke's Battering Ram combo, losing a Non-Title match for his team.
Our main event featured Tiger Ali Singh and former WWE star, Shawn Daivari, taking on two 6'7" 300lbs monsters, Darkko and Kaine.
For the first half of the match it seemed like these two monsters were too much for Tiger Ali Singh and Shawn Daivari to handle.
Eventually, Tiger Ali Singh managed to take Kaine down with a Side-Slam and picked up the win for his team.
Afterwards, the Mayor of Brampton awarded Tiger Ali Singh and Tiger Jeet Singh an award for all of their charitable work in Brampton

After some near falls, Johnny Wave upset Shawn Daivari by getting a 3-count following a roll-up.
Post match, Shawn Daivari and Kevin Steen beat down the lifeless Johnny Wave untill "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin ran out to make the save.

It wasn't long untill the class filled up with athletic and eager ladies who want to get into pro wrestling.
Taylor Wilde's class is currently going on untill February 2012.
Edge Pro Wrestling Scholarship Squared Circle was proud to hold the first ever "Edge Pro Wrestling Scholarship". Potential students from across Canada sent us their essays hoping to get chosen by Edge to win free pro wrestling training.
Once the final 8 participants were chosen, we invited them to SCT to have a sit-down meeting with the former WWE Champion, Edge, himself.
Edge spent over 4+ hours on his decision but in the end he chose Alysha Verhoeven, also known to Ontario Wrestling fans as "Leah Von Dutch".
October Brock University opened up their doors to us for their annual "Brock Brawl" event. The show featured two 1st Round Premier Championship Tournament Matches plus a Halloween Tables Match.

After some shenanigans earlier on in the show, The Empire's Marcus "The Great" Marquez, Sebastian Suave and Seleziya Sparx challenged Kalvin Kriss, "Rocksteady" Alex Vega and "Suicide Blonde" Xandra Bale to a 6-Person Intergender match.
After some impressive dives to the outside, Xandra Bale managed to keep Seleziya Sparx at bay while Kalvin Kriss and Alex Vega hit stereo top rope splashes to pick up the win.
Originally, Pepper Parks was scheduled to compete against Kris Chambers in the Premier Championship Tournament Semi-Finals. Unfortunately, Kris Chambers had to withdraw from the tournament due to transportation issues.
Since Pepper didn't have an opponent he challenged anybody to a match. It wasn't long untill The K.G.B. walked out and accepted the challenge.
Although K.G.B. seemed to have the upper hand for the majority of the match, Pepper Parks ended up getting the pinfall following a Twisting Fishermans Suplex.
In the main event, ROH star, "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin defeated "The All-Starter" Brent Banks in the Semi-Finals of the Premier Championship Tournament.
Some are calling this SCW's match of the year. Both warriors fought to exhaustion with neither one wanting to give up.
It took a top rope Sit-Out Powerbomb to finally keep Brent Banks down for the 3 count. Premier Showcase Our last event of 2011 featured the Finals of the Premier Championship Tournament, a Tag Team Street Fight and the return of T'N'T (Tyson Dux & eL Tornado).
After Empire's vicious attack on the Gym Rats 2.0 at EPIC ENCOUNTERS, it was announced that Gym Rats 2.0 would have one last shot at the Tag Team Championships, this time it'll be a Tag Team Street Fight.
Both teams held nothing back and nearly killed themselves using various items like chairs, tables and a ladder as a weapon.
Sebastian Suave eats a Keyboard shot to the head into a Double Tombstone Piledriver, forcing him to stay down for the 3 count. The Gym Rats 2.0 finally win the Tag Team Championships.
Before they can celebrate their victory, Checkmate(Christopher Bishop and Lionel Knight) runs out and attacks the newly crowned Tag Team Champions, making their SCW debut. Checkmate challenge Gym Rats 2.0 to a Tag Team Championship match at "Golden Hearts" in January.

At Premier Showcase, T'N'T finally returned as a well oiled unit to take on the team of "The All-Starter" Brent Banks and "Rocksteady" Alex Vega.
The match was a few minutes shy of 30 minutes long. While Brent Banks and Alex Vega gave it all they had, they were no match for T'N'T's years of in-ring experience.
